The spirit of the season came alive at King Elementary School during its annual Angel Tree event, a tradition that underscores the power of community and the joy of giving. This year’s celebration ensured that 406 students received a holiday gift, thanks to the remarkable generosity of local organizations, community donors, and the school staff.
The Angel Tree initiative, a cornerstone of King ES’s commitment to inclusivity and care, invites local organizations, businesses, and individuals to sponsor students anonymously, donating gifts tailored to each child’s needs and wishes. The anonymity ensures the focus remains on the act of giving and the collective effort of the community.
The evening began with a warm welcome from King Elementary staff, who had transformed the school into a festive wonderland. Families were greeted with cheerful holiday music that set the tone for the celebration. Throughout the night, children participated in games and activities designed to engage and entertain, while parents and guardians connected with teachers and other members of the community.
At the heart of the event was the distribution of gifts. Each student received a carefully selected present, their faces lighting up with excitement and gratitude. For many families, the Angel Tree program provided a much-needed moment of joy during a challenging time of year.
“This wasn’t just about handing out gifts,” said Tabitha ‘Tabby’ Benitez, King ES Community School Director. “It was about creating a space where families, staff, and students felt connected and celebrated. The Angel Tree event truly embodies the spirit of our school community—coming together to make a difference in each other’s lives.”
This year’s Angel Tree event showcased the power of the community school model, which integrates local resources to address the needs of students and their families. The initiative would not have been possible without the dedication of numerous donors and volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure that no child was left out.
“When I joined the team at King, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But last night, I saw the power of community in action. The success of a community school depends on the willingness of the entire village to show up, and King proved just how unstoppable we can be when we work together.”
