SDoL Statement on Cedar Crest Basketball Game Incident

This week, we became aware of the potential use of a racial slur during our boys basketball game at Cedar Crest High School. We thank the Cornwall-Lebanon School District administration for taking these allegations seriously and investigating.

We would be remiss not to use this opportunity to share that our student-athletes face racially hostile and inappropriate environments in many venues where they compete. This is unacceptable. While we welcome fierce competition and enjoy spirited crowds in road venues, our student-athletes should never be subjected to racial or other derogatory abuse from opposing fans.

We call on all schools to set and enforce high standards for spectators. All students, parents and fans across our region should cheer for your team, but remember that your opponents are competitors and human beings worthy of respect.
